It is the first time the country's information office has hired an international PR firm, it said in a September 24 statement posted to the H&K Web site.
The Beijing office, including the same staff members who worked on the Olympics, is handling the account, said James Heimowitz, president and CEO of H&K Asia's North Asia region by e-mail.
The firm, which began work in July, will monitor global opinions and help Beijing manage its global image with international media. John Holden, MD of H&K's Beijing office called the account a “landmark assignment” in the statement.
H&K, which has worked in China for 25 years, has offices in Beijing, Chengdu, Shanghai, and Guangzhou. It opened the Chengdu office in August 2009.
