KFC hosted another day of freebies for its non-fried chicken on Monday, October 26. More than 5,000 KFCs nationwide were expected to give consumers a free piece of grilled chicken in the third such "UnFry Day," as the restaurant chain has dubbed the giveaways of its Kentucky Grilled Chicken.
Earlier in the year, the company, part of Yum Brands, suffered a setback when its free chicken giveaway proved too popular (after being blessed by Oprah), and it ran out of chicken. Despite the snafu, the company managed to grab serious headlines and boost awareness of its new grilled products and to get customers to "unthink" the "fried" in KFC.
KFC president Roger Eaton told one outlet that despite the problems, the earlier event was success because, "We were the talk of the town."
One blog reported that lines at KFC were more orderly this time around.
