The Firm Voice, a publication from the Council of PR Firms, gets advice from several high-profile PR professionals about how to increase diversity in the industry. Hill & Knowlton's Vickee Jordan Adams, Waggener Edstrom's Torod Neptune, and The Jeffrey Group's Jorge Ortega are mentioned in the piece, along with tips about mentoring and reaching out to high school students. Neptune says:

One positive update is that the dialogue around this issue today is generally discussed with much more authenticity than in years past, where it was focused solely on the numbers as opposed to discussing diversity in the context of a progressive and innovative workplace that benefits a fundamental business and client proposition.

In terms of what firms and the industry can be doing to achieve greater diversity, I'm not a fan of a quick fix, nor do I think there is one to be had here. That said, I'd caution that we have to remain focused on our ultimate objective of initiating substantive, long-term and credible change by focusing on diversity for what it is : a strategic business imperative.
