There was no RFP, but Olympusat chose BG&A as the firm worked in the past with Sorpresa, which was acquired by Olympusat in August, said Ivette Mendez-Kelly, VP of sales and distribution for the Hispanic networks. It has been several years since Olympusat worked with a PR firm, she added.
"Because of where the company is at and all the projects we have in the near future, we decided it would be a good time to hire a PR agency," she told PRWeek. "The reason why we decided to work with Bob and his team was because we know they have great industry contacts and media relationships."
BG&A will oversee Spanish-language consumer and trade media outreach, English trade outreach, and social media. The goals for the new partnership are to "increase distribution, be top-of-mind among our affiliates and clients, including ad sales," Mendez-Kelly said, and "position our channels among cable, telco, and satellite operators."
"We're currently doing some things in social media and this is one of our priorities for this year, definitely," she added. "Bob and his team have been very proactive in guiding us in the right way."The account will be led by president Bob Gold, with four other staffers working on it. The contract is set for one year, with an option to renew, said Mendez-Kelly, and the company is hoping for a longer-term relationship. She declined to disclose the budget for the account.
