Public affairs: Health summits and a sugared drink tax

I spent two days in Washington last week in meetings with several PR and public affairs leaders at firms, companies, trade groups, and a few from Capitol Hill.

While I missed most of the healthcare summit at Blair House, only catching a few minutes in a office lobby here and there, the topic of how Democrats and Republicans will handle the issue of healthcare reform was top of mind for many people.

While I was in DC, I also shot two video interviews - one with Kiki McLean, MD and global head of public affairs for Porter Novelli, at the firm's offices. The other video was with Kevin Keane, SVP of public affairs for the American Beverage Association.

Stay tuned - much of what the association is doing to fight a sugared drink tax is heavily rooted in strategic communications. And, as always, I'm looking for interesting trends and buzz about what's going on in the Washington market.
