NEW YORK: The Bermuda Department of Tourism hired Lou Hammond & Associates (LH&A) as its North America AOR, following a competitive review. The agency, effective April 1, will work on PR and marketing communications, including social media and events, among other efforts.
"We were looking for an agency that could help us with our key objectives, which include raising awareness [of the] all-year-round destination [and] proximity to the East Coast," said Ann Shutte, director of global operations for the Bermuda Department of Tourism, via e-mail.
She noted that the organization wanted to find an agency "in tune with today's leisure traveler."
Shuttle confirmed that Corbin & Associates, the brand's AOR for the last three years, was one of 10 agencies that participated in the RFP process. She said the organization issued the RFP in light of the current contract ending. Most of the participants were were New York City-based, Shutte added.
LH&A had previously served as the AOR for the organization, from 1999 to 2007. Lou Hammond, chair and founder of the agency, confirmed that the firm declined the opportunity to repitch in 2007, but did not provide further details.
Hammond said it was early to talk about some of the efforts in the works, but she mentioned an upcoming tie-in with the Boston Red Sox.
"It's a marvelous opportunity and a beautiful island," said Hammond. "We believe we can make a difference."
