Jodi Baumann became senior director of corporate communications last June, reporting to new CMO Christine Heckart. At that time, the company consolidated corporate, analyst, and product PR under one worldwide umbrella, managed by director Roger Villareal, who reports to Baumann. Previously, these functions were handled by separate individuals working independently of one another and reporting to global or regional heads.
"It's an integrated approach, which allows us to put out one consistent message across the board," Baumann says.
NetApp's more streamlined messaging now includes communication via social media, a major venture for the company, which created a social media team in 2007 that reports to Baumann, who has been with NetApp six years.
"We realized we had a real gem of a blogger in Dave Hitz, our founder, who was already an active blogger," she explains. "Blogging was really our first foray into social media and we created a special social media team to oversee all projects related to Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, and blogging."
