SAN FRANCISCO: Kelly McGinnis, former CCO for Enfatico, has joined Dell as head of its global communications. She will report to Dell CMO Erin Nelson.
In January, McGinnis was named AxiCom's new head US operations after WPP folded Enfatico's PR function into the agency. AxiCom is Dell's AOR. Sabrina Guttman, SVP at AxiCom, has been named the new head of US operations for the agency.
McGinnis joined Dell on March 1, replacing TR Reid who has worked in communications roles with the technology giant for more than a decade. Sources inside Dell declined to say whether Reid's departure was voluntary. McGinnis said Reid left the company in mid-March, allowing for “a natural transition.” He was not immediately available for comment.
“It was a pretty natural evolution,” McGinnis told PRWeek. “There was a wide continuity in the work that I was doing for Dell in the agency world.”
McGinnis called it “premature” to comment on the specific initiatives she would work on. However, her new role means she will “drive the communications for Dell,” including corporate work and communications around all of its business units. She declined to specify whether Dell would reconfigure its agency relationships under her leadership.
“It's early for me to say much,” McGinnis said. “But we have a great heritage of a very, very close partnership [with AxiCom] and right now we're focused against building momentum around the story we are trying to tell… I have no urgency around slowing us down.”
Its key message moving forward will include Dell's transformation from its legacy as a hardware provider to becoming a solutions provider, as well.
“It's a real transformation of the company,” McGinnis said. “Dell has spent the last few years really putting the pieces together. And now we're at the place where we're executing against it.”
McGinnis will be based in San Francisco, rather than Dell's Austin, TX, headquarters.
