Verizon hires Neptune

NEW YORK: Verizon Communications has hired Torod Neptune as VP of communications for products and services, effective May 1.

NEW YORK: Verizon Communications has hired Torod Neptune as VP of communications for products and services, effective May 1.

Neptune, former SVP and global public affairs practice leader for Waggener Edstrom Worldwide, will report to Peter Thonis, chief communications officer at Verizon. He will be responsible for leading the strategy for Verizon's telecommunications and business products.

Thonis said Neptune's role encompasses the positions vacated by Jack Hoey, former VP of media relations, and Eric Rabe, former SVP of media relations, both of whom retired within the past five months. It will also include some additional corporate leadership responsibilities.

"It's really a new title that we've never had before," said Thonis. "It's certainly a very senior position at Verizon."

Neptune will be based in Basking Ridge, NJ.

In a statement, WE said it had named VP Joe Farren the head of the firm's North American public affairs practice and GM of the Washington office. Farren joined WE in 2009 from the CTIA - The Wireless Foundation.Farren and Herman Schepers, VP of public affairs in EMEA, will both direct the global practice

Earlier this year, Matt Reid, former EVP at WE who founded the firm's public affairs practice, departed the firm for a position with the Business Software Alliance.
