WASHINGTON: Kratos Global Strategies, a new strategic communications firm led by Fleishman-Hillard veteran Paul Johnson, has made 10 senior hires since its January launch.

Johnson, former vice chair of Fleishman, joined government consulting firm National Strategies in 2009 to launch Kratos.

Senior hires in Washington includes Christine Middleton, most recently an associate at Booz Allen Hamilton and a former VP at Fleishman-Hillard, as MD; Richard Doyle, former president and CEO of the International Sleep Products Association, as SVP; Mark Isaac, former VP of public policy and communications at the Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric AIDS Foundation; and Heather Sabharwal, former director of PR at Strayer University, as VP.

In the Mid-West, the firm hired James Morice, retired regional president of Fleishman-Hillard, as MD, and Mark Abels, most recently a communications consultant and former VP of corporate communications at Trans World Airlines, as SVP.

Senior hires on the West Coast include Brian Hardwick, former director of development and communications for the Alliance for Climate Protection, as MD, and Lisa Novak, former head of the US consumer practice at Ruder Finn, as GM.

Kratos also named Darren Katz, former president of the Edison Group, MD, and Vanessa Champlin, a former VP and group manager at Ketchum, SVP.

Interpoint Group owns National Strategies and Kratos, which has offices in seven US cities and Brussels. Kratos offers public affairs, strategic communications, grassroots marketing, and business consulting.

"We're very much in a business consulting model," said Johnson, "and I would say that 70% of our clients are CEOs, so we're very much in the C-suite."

Since its launch, Kratos has picked up wins with Custodia, GNC, and Applegate Farms. Johnson said he has participated in 80 pitches since the firm was formed.
