Massey Energy, the company at the center of the West Virginia coal mining disaster which killed 29 people earlier this month, has reportedly hired a PR agency to help it respond to questions about the company's governance.

According to The Wall Street Journal, Austin-based Public Strategies, which is owned by WPP, is "politically connected" and has been brought in to, “advise [Massey Energy] on how to respond to questions about the company's governance and the board's general oversight of the company.”

PRWeek contacted Massey Energy but no one was available to confirm. Public Strategies declined to comment stating, “it is against company policy to discuss clients.”
