HPRA launches NY chapter

The Hispanic PR Association is launching a New York chapter on April 23.

The Hispanic PR Association is launching a New York chapter on April 23. Covering the tri-state area, the new chapter will continue the Los Angeles-based HPRA's mission and will work under the same governance.

President of TeleNoticias David Henry will serve as president, with Monica Talan, VP of corporate communications for Univision, as VP; Melissa Smith, EVP of RLPR, as treasurer; and Claudia Mejia, VP of The Axis Agency, as secretary.

"The mission is to first, unify the Hispanic PR community here, and help provide that community support," Henry told PRWeek. "At the same time, it's also to reach out to people who are interested in learning more about Hispanic PR, whether that's on the corporate side or agency side, and give them information and tools they can use to help get them into the field. And ultimately, help promote the profession and encourage students and people to get into the practice of Hispanic PR."

The Association is using traditional media outreach, word-of-mouth, and social media to spread the word, and encourage PR professionals who spend at least half of their time working in the Hispanic market, to join the group.

As its first benefit, joining HPRA NY will get members a discount rate to the upcoming Hispanic PR and Social Media Marketing Conference in Dallas in May.*

"We want to keep the unity of the organization and keep the overall mission of the organization, that LA started 29 years ago, we want to keep all of that moving forward," Henry added.

*I'll be attending this conference for PRWeek, so let me know if you will be there too!
