HOUSTON: Max Watson, former GM of Hill & Knowlton's Houston office, passed away earlier this week after a nine-year battle with multiple myeloma, a type of cancer. He was 59. Watson originally served as senior managing director at H&K from 1991 to 1993. He rejoined the agency in 1997 and was promoted to GM in 2000. He stepped down in 2002 to concentrate on treatment. In an e-mail to staff, H&K CEO Paul Taaffe called Watson a dear friend who was "instrumental in H&K winning the Compaq work... the genesis of our HP business." Memorial arrangements are still pending.
