Team size: More than 30
What's new: Added positions of digital publicist and content and special project manager
Scholastic has been making great strides of late in digital and social media. The nearly 90-year-old company recently added the roles of content and special project manager, as well as digital publicist to its team of 30-plus people.
Kyle Good, VP of corporate communications, says these moves stem from Scholastic's growing reputation as a content creator and the communications team's oversight of social media throughout the organization. The company, she adds, has taken steps recently to make sure internal and external outreach around digital are coordinated.
One unique facet of the department is that it houses an entire corporate events division, one which has expanded over the years to include more creative design, content creation, and video editing, according to Good.
Though the main Web site does not report into communications, the "About us" section of the Scholastic site is managed by Russell Thomas' team, which has helped to create a much more robust media room.
"Our business is changing so quickly," says Good. "The key is to stay flexible."
