In the wake of the Gulf of Mexico oil spill, Procter & Gamble's Dawn dish soap brand is getting some bittersweet PR.
"P&G's Dawn soap has been used several times over the last 30 years to help clean animals affected by oil spills," the Business Courier of Cincinnati reported, so the company is increasing production of products. Dawn is working with two organizations: the International Bird Rescue Research Center and the Marine Mammal Center.
P&G is using social media and blog post to keep consumers and the media updated on the company's wildlife efforts. This outreach comes after the company launched a sustainability campaign and recent advertisements have promoted wildlife rescue.
[UPDATED] P&G reached out to PRWeek to dispute the claim in the Business Courier that the company increased production. Marie-Laure Salvado, external relations director of global healthcare for P&G, said the company provided 1,000 bottles of product to its nonprofit partners, and did expedite the shipment, but did not increase production.
