After more than a decade apart, Bill Cosby and Jell-O are reuniting in an effort to boost the brand's reported decline in sales.
As this is the brand's biggest promotional effort to date, it makes sense to wheel out Cosby, who was the hugely popular face for Jell-O in the 80s. Except this time around he's not really the front man – more the behind the camera man.
According to a company press release, Cosby will serve as an “executive producer” for the campaign.
Still, news of Cosby's return – on screen or not– was enough to prompt several reels of nostalgic 80s advertising footage across dozens of news sites and blogs.
But Cosby fans will manage to get their fix on some level. The comedian is set to be involved with Jell-O's search for the best giggle in America through an American Idol-style open casting call, which will be staged in 22 cities throughout the summer. The "Give it a Giggle" tour is being promoted through Jell-O's Facebook page and through a weekly web series, OBKB, featuring Cosby that Jell-O is sponsoring.
