The World Cup will take place June 11 to July 11 in South Africa, and companies around the world are working on campaigns involving PR, advertising, promotions, events, social media, and more. We at PRWeek will be covering more of the PR-related promotions in the coming days, but there is some news today focused on the advertising elements.

Nike, for example, made a huge ad buy on Facebook, The New York Times reported. It will roll out its World Cup commercials through the social networking site before they debut on TV.

Meanwhile, Yahoo is showing off its services and the way fans can use the site to access games. "The effort spans the desktop Web and mobile devices and includes coverage from South Africa, fantasy games, and new search tools for more than 20 countries," MediaPost reported.
