McDonald's is introducing smoothies to its menu this summer, but the company has cut back on marketing the product in some areas to make sure they have enough product, The Wall Street Journal reported. Internal documents discuss cutting back promotions and sales before the national marketing campaign is set to hit July 13.
McDonald's spokeswoman Danya Proud said Thursday the company should have an ample supply of Smoothie mix, but has stopped some local promotions so that supplies don't run thin when the national marketing campaign hits. Ms. Proud, who declined to comment on the content of the documents, said that McDonald's has "some very aggressive marketing tactics in place" to correspond with the national launch.
