General Electric CEO Jeffrey Immelt made some comments on Wednesday night at a private dinner in Rome that have gained media attention.

According to The Wall Street Journal, "Immelt said it is getting harder for foreign companies to do business in China, and that the Obama administration hasn't done as much as its predecessors to develop ties to the business community, people who heard his comments said Thursday."

At first GE distanced itself from Immelt's comments, with VP of communications and public affairs Gary Sheffer saying, "They do not represent our views." But later, the company released a statement saying the comments were taken out of context by the Financial Times.
