The companies also announced plans to develop and distribute social-based games in Japan.

Along with opportunities to expand its user base, Zynga will gain insight into the Japanese market. Based in Tokyo, Zynga Japan will attempt to appeal to the country's interest in gaming and technology, while leveraging Softbank's mobile and Web technologies to develop new games.

San Francisco-based Zynga is best known for developing games such as Farmville and Mafia Wars, which excelled on social media networks including Facebook. Zynga, however, is attempting to decrease its dependence on Facebook and expand to new social media outlets.
