PALO ALTO, CA: David Shane, VP of global corporate communications for HP, has left the company to start his own corporate communications advisory firm.

In the interim, the external communications team will report to CMO Michael Mendenhall, and the company is currently looking for a replacement for Shane.

Shane will continue to serve as a strategic communications advisor to HP, working with senior management. The new firm will focus on issues of corporate reputation, as well as crisis and issues management.

Hani Durzy, director of US corporate media relations for HP, told PRWeek: "David did a fantastic job building up a great external communications team and we wish him well in his new endeavor. We'll continue to execute on our existing communications programs."

Shane joined HP in July 2008. Previously, he was SVP of the corporate issues and entertainment practices at Weber Shandwick in Los Angeles.
