LinkedIn announced the acquisition of Pittsburgh-based MSpoke on Wednesday, the first acquisition made by the business-oriented social network.
MSpoke software sorts through large amounts of data and determines relevant information. The company will improve LinkedIn's ability to filter messages and news articles that its users share on the network - it will also improve LinkedIn's recommendation engine, which highlights people and jobs.
Terms of the deal were not disclosed, as LinkedIn is privately held. CEO Jeff Weiner, however, said the company's revenue growth has accelerated and profit has risen in the last year.
LinkedIn has gained approximately 10 million new members since April, with over 75 million users worldwide.
