SAN FRANCISCO: MySpace hired Rosabel Tao as SVP of corporate communications, effective August 30.
Tao will report to president Mike Jones and replaces Dani Dudeck, who left the company to join social gaming firm Zynga in April.
In her new role, Tao will oversee all internal and external communications for the company globally, including messaging, developing communications programs around business objectives, and overseeing PR and communications around the company's upcoming redesign.
"The role is to set the overall PR strategy and messaging and priorities for the company," Tao told PRWeek, noting that the redesign would be her first order of business. "You don't get a lot of opportunities in your career to reshape a great consumer brand. This is such a really critical time from a communications point of view for MySpace. It's a brand in transition and I feel I can really add some value here."
Tao most recently owned her own communications consulting firm, Rosabel Tao Communications, which worked with clients including PopSugar Media and Current Media. Prior to that, she was VP of communications for tech start-up Spot Runner.
As SVP, Tao will lead a team of about a dozen communications professionals within MySpace globally. Weber Shandwick is MySpace's US AOR,* and, as of now, that relationship will remain the same.
