Pharmaceutical company Roche released information about the company's social media usage and guidelines this week.
And, earlier this month, the Mayo Clinic also launched an online social media center, although it plans to use the resource to offer consulting services.
Roche's new Web page provides access to the company's social media guidelines, contact info for the head of social media, and links to brand, corporate, and local social media activities. Sabine Kostevc, who is based in Basel, is listed as the head of corporate Internet and social media for Roche.
The Mayo Clinic's Center for Social Media says it aims to accelerate the adoption of social media with physicians, hospitals, and patient groups by offering training, consulting, and speaking services.
The not-for-profit medical practice said this week it planned to add three public affairs positions to support the center's social media initiatives. Along with the new training services, these include a Mayo Clinic presence on YouTube, Twitter, and Facebook, as well as three blogs and a consumer health information website.
The Minneapolis Star-Tribune reported that only 15% to 20% of the 5,000 hospitals in the US use social media.
