WASHINGTON: GSK has teamed up with Washington Redskins quarterback Donovan McNabb to support its Healthy Communities Program designed to promote exercise and tackle childhood obesity.
As the appointed Redskins health ambassador McNabb will lead a series of youth fitness initiatives in the DC area during September's National Childhood Obesity Awareness Month. Activities will include “Play 60” at FedExField where McNabb, his teammates and Redskins' cheerleaders will lead more than 1000 D.C. children in an attempt to establish the Guinness World Record for the “largest virtual exercise lesson.”
The campaign will also be supported by a dedicated website, www.donovansplaybook.com, the Redskins team Facebook page, and Redskins team bloggers/staff writers.
Tony Wyllie, SVP Washington Redskins said, “Washington D.C. is plagued with one of the highest childhood obesity rates in the nation and our goal for the program is two fold: (1) bring greater awareness to this very serious issue and (2) put an actionable plan into place for children and their families in order to reduce this critical, but preventable issue in our Community.
