LOS ANGELES: Mobile payment technology startup Bling Nation hired PR agency Golin Harris to be its AOR and build awareness of its product, including consumer education, media relations and social media.
For about the last year Bling Nation had been retaining an unidentified, Atlanta-based PR agency that specializes in finance because the startup's product is a financial service. But Bling Nation CMO Judy Balint said the time had come time to find an agency with broader expertise.
“We felt GolinHarris were best suited, with good consumer technology and financial service expertise,” Balint said.
In a three-round competitive pitch 12 agencies vied for the account. The final five pitched virtually, but Balint declined to identify the agencies. “It was a mix of large agencies and individual media consultants,” she said.
Last year, Palo Alto-based Bling Nation raised $20 million in a Series B funding round led by Balderton Capital. Founded in 2007, the startup has raised $28 million to date. Last week it also rolled out a “tap-and-pay” program for PayPal employees.
SVP Traci Renner will lead the account out of the Interpublic agency's Orange County office, along with two others who will work on the account full time.
