WASHINGTON: The Department of Education awarded SS&K a $1.5 million contract to support its “Teach” campaign, a teacher recruitment initiative scheduled to launch in September.

President Obama said at the start of this year that the Department of Education would develop an effort to raise the profile of teaching in the US. The department has said it estimates the US will need up to 1.7 million new teachers by 2017.

The budget is $1.5 million for the first year, with two option years – each worth around $1.1 million – available. The contract was announced online August 20.

The online posting said the "campaign will increase the number, quality, and diversity of people seeking to become teachers, and raise the profile of the teaching profession in the eyes of the general public, with those already in the profession, and especially among those who may be considering teaching as a career."

Interested vendors included Edelman, Fenton Communications, and Lipman Hearne when the solicitation was posted earlier this month.
