WASHINGTON: Fleishman-Hillard confirmed it let go up to 9% of staff in the firm's Washington office but declined to provide the specific number of people laid off.

Martha Boudreau, president of Fleishman's Mid-Atlantic and Latin America regions, said by e-mail that the layoffs occurred August 19 due to "local market conditions." She declined to say which practices were affected, stating that "a small number" of practice areas were affected. The Washington office works with clients including the Federal Trade Commission, AARP, the Office of National Drug Control Policy, and McAfee.
