Last Thursday was a sad day for the auto industry. Jack Pitney, VP of marketing for BMW of North America, died in an accident on his farm in Durham, NY, at the age of 47. Former Ford PR manager Stanley Drall died of a stroke at the age of 87.
Pitney is perhaps best known for his work to promote the Mini in the US, using the Internet, billboards, and nontraditional marketing tactics before there was an established market for premium small cars, according to The New York Times.
Drall, referred to as a PR legend, started his career at Ford right out of high school as a typist at the Rouge Plant in Dearborn, MI and retired 53 years later.
