PHILADELPHIA: Comcast appointed Peter Dobrow as executive director of corporate communications, a position that had been vacant for almost a year.
Effective September 7, Dobrow will report to Jennifer Khoury Newcomb, VP of corporate communications, and will oversee about seven people in the Comcast consumer communications teams.
Previously director of external communications at T-Mobile, Dobrow replaces Mary Nell Westbrook, who left Comcast last fall. She is now CMO at medical equipment company Sizewise.
"Peter's responsibilities are to head up our consumer products, communications, and social media around our products," D'Arcy Rudnay, SVP of corporate communications, told PRWeek. Though the company looked internally and externally for candidates, Rudnay added that Comcast was "primarily looking for someone who would bring consumer communications experience…and from outside the cable business."
Dobrow told PRWeek he will have a "laser focus on product and services PR," including social media.
Reid Walker, who joined T-Mobile as VP of corporate communications in May, confirmed the telecoms company is looking to fill Dobrow's position, as well as looking for a director of frontline communications, a position that has also been vacant for a while. Heyman & Associates is assisting with the search.
