WASHINGTON: The Advanced Medical Technology Association (AdvaMed) hired Edelman's Gary Karr as EVP of public affairs.
Karr, most recently an EVP in the firm's healthcare practice in Washington, will report to Stephen Ubl, president and CEO of AdvaMed, when he starts January 3.
Before joining Edelman in 2006, he was the director of media affairs for the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services.
"Health policy is one of the most exciting places to be in public affairs," said Karr, adding that the position provides him with an opportunity to "help shape communications for an industry that is vitally important to helping solve the nation's healthcare problem."
Karr replaces Michael McGarry, who left the trade organization in June. AdvaMed, which represents medical technology companies such as Boston Scientific and Medtronic, recently launched a campaign aimed at policymakers called “Medical Technology. Life Changing Innovation."
