LONDON: ITU Telecom, the international telecommunications trade group, hired AxiCom Cohn & Wolfe to implement social media, digital programs and PR services for the ITU Telecom World 2011 event in Geneva next year.
The job is being led by AxiCom's London office, but eventually support from the firm's US offices may come in because the event attracts many US-based attendees. Cohn & Wolfe VP of communications Eric Litchfield said Cohn & Wolfe's Geneva office is spearheading digital and social media support, and together both agencies will offer a broad array of global PR services.
In 2008 Cohn & Wolfe bought a majority stake in AxiCom. The size of the account was not immediately available.
The goal is to drive brand awareness of the event, which brings together heads of state, government ministers, regulators, and industry decision-makers.
Richard White, AxiCom's telecom practice leader, will head the account out of London. Other AxiCom clients include Dell, Brightcove, and Kineto Wireless.
