NEW YORK: Edelman promoted its UK CEO Robert Phillips to lead the firm's Europe, Middle East, and Africa operations.

Phillips, who will remain based in London, was also named chair of Edelman UK. As president and CEO of Edelman's EMEA operations, he reports to Richard Edelman, worldwide president and CEO of the independent firm.

Edelman's EMEA region generated $101 million, or 19% of the firm's global revenue, in 2010. It has 760 employees in 17 offices.

The appointment follows a string of executive moves for the global PR firm over the last year.

Edelman promoted Alan VanderMolen, former president of the firm's Asia-Pacific offering, to a US-based global leadership position in August. Phillips replaces David Brain, who was also promoted in August to CEO of Edelman APAC.

The firm said that a search is underway for the role that Phillips vacated as CEO of Edelman UK. His promotion is effective January 10.
