WASHINGTON: Pfizer named Peter O'Toole VP of communications in the firm's Washington office, a newly created position.

O'Toole, most recently director of executive communications at General Electric, worked with chairman and CEO Jeffrey Immelt. He joined GE from Burson-Marsteller in 2005, in time to help launch the company's Ecomagination campaign.

He started December 30.

In his new role at Pfizer, O'Toole is responsible for addressing policy, external affairs, and communications. He reports to Ken Cole, SVP of government relations for Pfizer.

Cole joined the pharmaceutical company six months ago after serving as General Motors' head of global public policy and government relations.
