MILPITAS, CA: SanDisk's Ryan Donovan has stepped down as head of corporate communications of the company best known for developing and making memory cards for computers and other gadgets.
Donovan will begin a new position at Visa next month as global head of brand, products, and innovation communications, with an emphasis on Visa's mobile payment efforts. This Friday is his last day at SanDisk.
“I am incredibly proud of the work we've done at SanDisk,” he said. “I feel like I am leaving it, the communications component, in really good shape.”
Donovan has headed up communications at SanDisk for the past two and a half years. Prior to that, he was director of corporate media relations at HP for three years.
A portion of his stint at HP was during the 2006 board member and reporter spying scandal that ultimately became an impetus for a shake-up of leadership at HP.
Donovan said a search is already underway for his replacement at SanDisk. SanDisk employs Hill & Knowlton for retail and corporate PR.
At Visa he will directly report to global head of corporate relations Doug Michelman.
