Teva and Nestlé have launched corporate social responsibility efforts today tied to clean water initiatives, in observance of World Water Day.
In "Pair for a Foot," for every pair of Teva shoes and sandals sold this year, the brand will help protect one linear foot of global waterways through donations to clean water nonprofits, including Ocean Conservancy and Waterkeeper Alliance. Teva, a division of Deckers Outdoor Corporation, anticipates the campaign will help preserve 4.3 million feet of waterways.
Teva collaborated with Waterkeeper Alliance on the "Save the Gulf" initiative last year, following the BP oil disaster.
Meanwhile, Nestlé is using World Water Day as a platform to release its 2010 Corporate Citizenship Report, featuring the company's efforts and longterm goals in water, sustainability, and community. Some of Nestlé's water efforts include partnering with local communities and stakeholders to support up to two watershed improvement projects per year; advocating for federal standards on public disclosure on source, quality, and process reporting for bottled water; and continuing sponsorship of Project WET Foundation, which provides educational kits and materials to children.
