BEDFORD, MA: SoundBite Communications, a provider of cloud-based customer communications solutions, recently acquired SmartReply in an effort to become a disruptive force in the expanding mobile marketing industry. Cash consideration paid at closing totaled $3.2 million.
The company was acquired for its expertise in working with clients, many of which are leading retail brands, and for the potential benefits to both companies that can emerge through their joint product offerings.

The entire SmartReply team will join SoundBite's mobile services business and work to drive growth in various mobile initiatives, including mobile marketing. SmartReply co-founder Mike Romano will take on the role of SVP of mobile sales and services, where he will lead a team of sales executives, account managers, and client-services staff members. He will report to Mark Friedman, chief marketing and business development officer at SoundBite.
