DENVER: Chipotle Mexican Grill has hired “Master of Disaster” Mark Fabiani, who will provide communications counsel related to an ongoing federal criminal investigation into whether the restaurant chain knowingly hired illegal immigrants.
Chris Arnold, communications director for Chipotle, confirmed the hire in an email to PRWeek.
Most recently, Fabiani was tapped by Goldman Sachs to help rebuild its image. He has also worked with Lance Armstrong to help defend the seven-time Tour de France winner against doping accusations.
Fabiani was dubbed the “Master of Disaster” by Newsweek when representing Bill and Hillary Clinton during the Whitewater investigation. Fabiani was also part of Al Gore's team during his bid for the presidency, serving as deputy campaign manager for communications and strategy in 2000.
Arnold also confirmed that Chipotle has hired a legal team out of Washington, including immigration consultant Julie Myers Wood and litigators Bob Luskin and Greg Craig. They will “advise on legal and compliance matters,” Arnold said.
Chipotle reportedly let go of hundreds of workers earlier this year following a labor audit by US Immigration and Customs Enforcement.
