LONDON: Grant Thornton International, a global organization with accounting and consulting member firms in 100 countries, has hired John Vita as the global head of communications, public policy and external affairs.
Vita explained that his main objective in his new role will be to “raise the visibility of Grant Thornton on a global basis along the lines of speaking out on issues of importance to investors and the business community.”
For the last 10 years, he has been the director of US communications for Grant Thornton LLP, one of the organization's member firms based in Chicago.
He plans on working with Grant Thornton's public policy programs by focusing on leadership issues, accounting, and financial reporting. Other elements of his role will include overseeing the organization, working with media relations, speech writing, and handling crisis communications.
His global work will be mainly a one-man position, but he will be reporting to the company's CMO, Jon Geldart.
This is not Vita's first time in charge of business on an international scale. From 1994 to 1998, he worked as the director of global PR for Arthur Andersen LLP, one of the five largest accounting firms in the world.
