SAN FRANCISCO: StumbleUpon, a leading discovery engine that helps consumers share and find web content based on personal preferences, hired Shift Communications as AOR for North America.
Following a multi-round competitive review, Shift began work on the account in mid-June from its San Francisco office.
The agency will work to boost brand awareness for StumbleUpon through traditional and social media relations, with a particular emphasis on outreach to consumer technology and lifestyle publications and broadcast media.
“The overall goal of our PR program is to raise the overall awareness of the company and product and bring our tech story to the mainstream consumer with the ultimate goal of adding and retaining users,” said Mike Mayzel, director of communications at StumbleUpon.
Shift is helping to craft the company's consumer PR plan for the next year, and will also assist in StumbleUpon's efforts to increase local brand awareness in the San Francisco area for recruiting purposes.
Weber Shandwick previously handled the account, but the StumbleUpon decided to conduct the review to find an agency that could offer a different perspective and some fresh and creative ideas.
Shift was selected due to its strong consumer experience, creative ideas, and because of the team's strong fit from a cultural perspective, according to Mayzel. The company is already impressed with its agency selection following Shift's successful work in the recent launch of StumbleUpon's revamped iPad app.
“The fact that we were tapped is amazing and exciting for us,” said Todd Defren, principal at Shift, who added that the agency is looking forward to working on the high-caliber account.
StumbleUpon declined to disclose the budget on the account.
