WASHINGTON: Twitter has hired former FCC aide Colin Crowell as head of global public policy.
The company is not providing details on Crowell's job duties at this point, but many speculate his role will involve engaging with lawmakers on Capitol Hill and other government agencies including the FCC and FTC. He will start in mid-September.
The hire was announced on Twitter. Crowell later used the service to express his excitement for the role by tweeting, “Have pushed open exchange of information in tech policy for 20+ yrs. No better place to apply that belief than Twitter. Look forward to it.”
Crowell recently ran his own consulting business and previously served as senior adviser to FCC chairman Julius Genachowski. He has deep experience in telecoms policy.
He is the second hire to Twitter's Washington policy team, following Adam Sharp, former C-SPAN executive producer of digital services, who was hired in November as government liaison.
