LONDON: Former Pentagon press secretary Geoff Morrell has been appointed head of communications for BP America, effective immediately.
An internal memo on Monday announced the hire. Morrell will report to Peter Henshaw, BP's group head of communications.
He will "work with senior leadership across the USA businesses and functions," the memo read. He will be based in Washington, DC, and will travel regularly to BP's headquarters in Houston, TX, and London, England.
Prior to joining BP, Morrell served as Pentagon press secretary for four years. He also worked as chief spokesperson for Robert Gates, defense press secretary, and the US Military. Morrell was also a White House correspondent for ABC News.
In January, BP selected Henshaw as its group head of communications, following a search that began last September.
