The campaign to re-elect President Barack Obama in 2012 raised $70 million in the last three months, well-above the $55 million goal set by the Obama for America team. The Democratic National Convention (DNC) raised nearly $30 million of that figure, while Obama's re-election campaign raised the rest.
The third quarter take was less than the $86 million the campaign brought in for the previous quarter. The Obama for America campaign countered that donations are tracking well ahead of where they were at this time in the 2008 campaign, and praised the amount raised in Q3 despite having to cancel fundraisers during the quarter due to the lengthy debt ceiling negotiations.
