Omnicom acquires Marina Maher

NEW YORK: Omnicom Group has acquired Marina Maher Communications.

NEW YORK: Omnicom Group has acquired Marina Maher Communications after a year of planning.

The firm, which specializes in female-focused PR, will become an operating unit in Omnicom's Diversified Agency Services division but will continue to function as an independent New York-based agency, the holding company said in a statement. CEO Marina Maher will continue in her current position.

“Many of the clients we represent are Fortune 500 companies, and as we've helped them build their brands, the brands have gone more global. We felt that there was a real need in the marketplace for us to be able to serve our clients on a global basis,” Maher said.

She added that being under the Omnicom umbrella will allow the firm to “offer extended marketing services to clients” because of the range of agencies within the holding company.

Thomas Harrison, chairman and CEO of DAS, said the acquisition will help Omnicom target unique demographics, specifically women.

“There have been quite a number of initiatives within Omnicom itself and within other Omnicom companies looking at the female target audience and trying to understand the female audience, as well as youth and Millennials. At the end of the day, there is really a large spectrum of consumers with whom we need to communicate,” he explained.

Marina Maher Communications reported $25 million in 2010 US revenue for the most recent PRWeek Agency Business Report. The agency has a staff of 109.

Omnicom saw a 9.7% year-over-year increase in global PR revenue in the third quarter to $307.1 million. PR revenue grew 4.2% organically in the period. The holding company's overall Q3 net income increased 16.7% year-over-year to $203.7 million.

Omnicom owns and operates Ketchum, Fleishman-Hillard, Cone, Porter Novelli, Clark & Weinstock, Kreab Gavin Anderson, Mercury Public Affairs, and Chlopak, Leonard, Schechter & Associates in its DAS division.
