NEW YORK: MWW Group has hired Josh Zeitz, former chief of staff at bankrupt brokerage MF Global, as SVP of corporate affairs. It is a newly created role at the firm.
Zeitz, who started work at the agency a week ago, will report to CEO Michael Kempner. He is splitting his time between the firm's New York and East Rutherford, NJ, offices.
“My time will be divided working on communications and policy strategy for some of our corporate clients, and also working on special projects with the [agency] office of the CEO in developing the business,” he said.
Zeitz said he left MF Global, which filed for bankruptcy late last month, about two weeks ago. The brokerage hired him in March 2010 to handle the personal and political affairs of former CEO Jon Corzine, who resigned from the company November 4. Zeitz had served as senior policy director and transition director for Corzine when he was governor of New Jersey.
At MF Global, Zeitz also worked with the corporate communications team on executive speeches, media relations, and corporate rebranding. He said he “developed a literacy in financial communications” at MF and enhanced his experience in policy and political communications.
"I've known [Kempner] now for more than three years, and we worked very closely when I worked at the governor's office," said Zeitz. "He and I had been talking about the possibility of me working [at MWW] for about two-plus years now."
Kemper is New Jersey finance chair for the Democratic National Committee.
