NEW YORK: Porter Novelli has hired Karen van Bergen as senior partner and MD of the agency's New York office. Van Bergen fills the position vacated by Lisa Rosenberg in April when she joined former colleague Marian Salzman at Euro RSCG Worldwide PR as president.
Van Bergen will relocate from Amsterdam where for the past three years she has worked as senior partner and SVP at Fleishman-Hillard, and global leader for OneVoice, the network of Omnicom firms that services Philips Electronics. She joins Porter January 1, reporting to CEO Gary Stockman.
“I've known Porter ever since I started working in marketing and communications, and I think it's a very strong brand,” van Bergen said. “I look forward to going to work with them.”
Van Bergen's prior experience also includes regional director for the Netherlands and Central and Eastern Europe at Fleishman-Hillard. Prior to Fleishman, she held two different positions with McDonald's, one as chief of staff and VP of corporate affairs for McDonald's Europe, and another as director of marketing, communications and government relations for McDonald's Central Europe/Central Asia division.
“She will be working closely with assistant MD Joe Russo and the New York leadership team to create the best place for staff to grow and to do outstanding and innovative work,” Stockman said.
Russo had stepped into the MD role on an interim basis following Rosenberg's departure.
Van Bergen added that she will work with existing clients, attract new clients, and focus on building and growing the agency's team.
