NEW YORK: PR Newswire has teamed up with social bookmarking site Del.icio.us, to allow PR Newswire's visitors to create tags for individual news releases and save them on their personal pages on website Del.icio.us.
Del.icio.us, which was recently acquired by Yahoo, serves as an online organizer of sorts, allowing users to store information online and categorize it by tags (also called folksonomies).
A button will now appear on every news release inviting users to "bookmark" the page on the Del.icio.us website.
While the Del.icio.us service has always enabled knowledgeable users to bookmark PR Newswire press releases, Rod Nicolson, VP of Online Services at PR Newswire, said the addition of the button on the press release opens up the service to a less tech-focused community. Nicolson said the partnership, in which no money changed hands, was mutually beneficial.
"We both recognize the benefit in getting together this way, we bring a wider, [more diverse] user base than Del.icio.us, which is still pretty tech based," Nicolson said. "It also provides our customers with access to the social bookmarking phenomenon."
Nicolson said that PR Newswire views this partnership as just another way to provide additional value and reach to their customer base.
