Whether you're fresh out of college or have years of work experience, taking a few minutes to prepare for a job interview remains time well spent.
First, check your résumé to make sure it's up to date and free of error, both in terms of the factual information and spelling and grammar. Make certain there are no gaps in employment and that the information reflects what you did, as opposed, for example, to what your department accomplished overall.
If you only have a biography, create a résumé to accompany it. An employer will want to follow a timeline of your professional history with dates.
Next, do your research about the company, its history, clients, culture, and people. Get as much information as you can from the recruiter or HR manager about the specific role for which you're interviewing. You can also ask for bios of those you'll be meeting.
On the big day, arrive a few minutes early. Take a portfolio to the interview if you have one. Take notes during the interview and remember to let the interviewers have their time to speak.
After the interview, follow up with a short thank-you note to reiterate what was said and your interest in the post.
