BENTON HARBOR, MI: On the heels of its recently completed acquisition of Maytag, Whirlpool is cutting 4,500 total jobs, including 1,800 salaried administrative positions, of which some involve communications.Daniel Verakis, senior manager of corporate reputation and media relations for Whirlpool, said that communications, marketing, and corporate communications for both Maytag and Whirlpool will be consolidated at Whirlpool's Michigan headquarters.
He noted that Whirlpool is offering upwards of 300 white collar Maytag workers currently based in Iowa the chance to stay on with the company.
"That applies to communication staff as well," he said.
Verakis said that Whirlpool continues to work with Zeno for marketing PR support, and that the company has been using Edelman for some corporate communications tasks. Maytag has worked with Carmichael Lynch Spong, which did not return a call before press time.
