LOS ANGELES: Former Fleishman-Hillard employees John Stodder and Doug Dowie have been convicted of federal wire fraud and conspiracy charges.

The jury deliberated for four days. The trial for Dowie, former LA GM, and Stodder, ex-SVP, began on April 4. It is unknown when sentencing will begin.

In a statement, Richard Kline, Fleishman regional president, senior partner, and Los Angeles GM, said, "We deeply regret that improper and indefensible bills were presented to several of our Los Angeles clients, and we again apologize to the residents of Los Angeles. Fleishman-Hillard was not a defendant in the trial and has cooperated fully with authorities since the beginning of their inquiry."

It continued: "Beginning in 2004, when questions were first raised about billings in our Los Angeles office, we have taken numerous steps to avoid the possibility of something like this ever occurring again. We also have publicly apologized and settled all claims with the city, reimbursing the city for more than the amount of the indefensible bills."
